Vehicle crashes into house, killing SC woman and injuring another person, coroner says

A South Carolina woman was killed Sunday night when the motorcycle she was a passenger on crashed into a Lowcountry house, according to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office .

Tiffany Carpenter, a 44-year-old Moncks Coroner resident, died at the scene of the wreck, Coroner Darnell Hartwell said Monday.

The single-vehicle collision, which left another person hospitalized, happened at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the South Carolina Highway Patrol .

A 2016 Honda motorcycle was driving east on College Park Road in the Summerville area of Berkeley County, Ridgeway said. Near the intersection with Andrews Boulevard the motorcycle ran off the right side of the road where it hit a ditch and crashed into a house, according to Ridgeway.

Carpenter was ejected from the motorcycle, Hartwell said.

The motorcycle driver was taken to a hospital in Charleston, according to Ridgeway. Further information on the driver's condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if either the driver or Carpenter were wearing helmets.

Information about what caused the motorcycle to veer off the road was not available, but the collision continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner's office.

In addition to those agencies, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office , Pineridge Fire Department and Berkeley County EMS responded to the wreck.

Through Sunday, 648 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 23 people have died in Berkeley County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths reported in the county in 2023, DPS said.
