COV Hurricane debris collections are underway; here's what you need to know: Don't worry if you see a hauler truck pass by and miss your street or some piles; they are making multiple passes. You may not see debris haulers in the community if they are unloading at the debris management site, where the contents of each truck are measured and photographed, and debris type is cataloged. This is a federal requirement. Collections are starting on the island and will work methodically inland to roadways and communities off the island. We are working to collect debris from public right-of-way, private roads, gated and ungated communities, mobile, manufactured and condominium communities within City limits. Debris collection takes time and our contracted haulers are working sun up to sun down seven days a week. There is a self-dropoff site for vegetative debris at the Jackson Road Transfer Station, 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice. It is illegal to dump debris of any kind at any City or County park, beach, or right-of-way. Higel Marine Park is NOT a public debris staging site. The burning of vegetative debris is prohibited. If you see debris haulers on your road, please give them plenty of space! Any interruptions will delay the collection process.
