Vestal residents urged to take tax collection survey
VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Town of Vestal residents are urged to voice their opinion on how their taxes should be collected.
The Vestal Town Board has posted a survey for Vestal residents regarding their options for town tax collection in 2025.
The Vestal Town Board is considering contracting with Broome County for the collection of Vestal town taxes. Many towns in Broome County contract with the County to collect their taxes.
According to the board, county tax collection would offer more options for residents, especially people who work. Residents would have additional ways to pay their town taxes, including online by e-check, and 24/7 secure drop boxes in multiple locations. Additionally, town employees would not have to handle cash tax payments, increasing their safety.
According to the town board, the maximum coast to the town would be $40,688.
Vestal residents also have the option of voting for their current tax collection to remain the same. It is currently collected by the town. However, the Vestal Town Board says the current way actually costs taxpayers more as the cost to the town is $53,323.
