Oct. 5—princeton — An event thanking hundreds of veterans for their service and their sacrifices takes place Nov. 2 when the Veterans' Breakfast and Stand Down Event comes to the Lifeline Princeton Church of God.

The Veterans' Breakfast and Stand Down Event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Lifeline Princeton Church of God at 250 Oakvale Road near Princeton. Veterans and their families are invited to attend, said Omar Aboulhosn, one of the event's organizers.

"This is our 10th year," Aboulhosn said Friday. "We missed one year because of Covid, so this will be our ninth time doing it, but our 10th year."

Around 500 veterans have attended previous breakfast and stand down events, he said. Counting their families, about 1,000 people will be served breakfast that morning after a program in the church honoring veterans and their service.

After breakfast, the next step of the program is the stand down operation in which veterans are presented with a variety of donated goods.

Veterans and their families will get into their vehicles and, being guided by volunteers with Brayman Construction, supervised by David Cooper from Brayman, they will go down lanes where more volunteers will load the donations into their trunks and truck beds.

"It literally takes highway engineers to make it work," Aboulhosn said.

Aboulhosn said Chief Deputy A.P. Christian and deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff's Department will provide traffic control so veterans can leave the church's large parking lot without any trouble.

Sponsors for this year's veterans breakfast and stand down event include Lifeline Princeton Church of God, Princeton Health Care Center, Brayman Construction, Operation Gratitude, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: Veterans Health Administration, Beckley VA Medical Center, Operation Compassion, Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Concord University Athletics and the Princeton and Bluefield Rotary Clubs.
