FRAMINGHAM, MA — The City of Framingham will commemorate Veterans Day with a special program dedicated to honoring the bravery, service, and sacrifices of veterans from our community. The event is on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Nevins Hall in the Memorial Building.

The Veterans Day program, featuring a full ceremony honoring veterans from all branches of the military, will include a special presentation of the Medals of Liberty and Fidelity.

This year, Medals of Liberty will be awarded posthumously to Captain Richard W. Higgins and Staff Sergeant Scott J. Metcalf. The Medal of Fidelity will be awarded in memory of Staff Sergeant Howard MacGlashing, Sergeant George M. Mitchell, Captain Larry A. Morse, and Specialist Four Donald J. Weir.

The ceremony will be hosted by Lino Covarrubias, CEO of Jewish Family Services of MetroWest and a U.S. Navy Veteran, with a series of moving tributes, including the Presentation of Colors by the Framingham Police Department Honor Guard, musical performances by Charles F. Rousseau, Vice Chair of the Framingham Veterans Council, and a rendition of Taps by Mark McClennan from Taps Across America.

"Honoring our veterans is a fundamental part of Framingham's values, and this ceremony is an opportunity for our community to express its deep gratitude for their courage and dedication," said Veterans Services Director Kathleen Lang, an U.S. Army Veteran. "These individuals have given selflessly to protect the freedoms we hold dear, and we are forever in their debt."

Mayor Charlie Sisitsky said "our veterans embody the spirit of sacrifice and bravery. This day is a reminder of the profound impact they have had on our city and our country. We owe them our utmost respect and admiration for their service."

The program also will feature special remarks by Philip R. Ottaviani, Jr., Chair of the City Council, Martin Nislick, a Vietnam U.S. Veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

Assistant Adjutant General Paul L. Minor of the Massachusetts Army National Guard will provide the keynote address.

The Framingham History Center will present an exhibit of veteran artifacts, highlighting Framingham's proud heritage of service.

The ceremony will conclude with a benediction by Chaplain Robert C. Anspach, followed by the Retirement of Colors by the Framingham Police Department Honor Guard.

The City of Framingham invites all residents to join us in this solemn tribute to our veterans and their families. Let us come together to remember and honor those who have courageously served and sacrificed for our nation.
