Vigo County crash on I-70 sends one to hospital
One person was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 eastbound near the 16-mile marker in Vigo County, according to state police.
Troopers responded about 8:40 a.m. to a report of an accident involving a semitrailer and two other vehicles.
ISP said Corey R. Yund, 34, of Crawfordsville, Indiana, was driving a 2020 Ford truck westbound and suddenly reduced his speed to make an illegal U-turn at the interstate turnaround, police said.
A Dodge truck driven by Tyler A. Nusbaumer, 21, of Indianapolis, struck Yund's truck in the rear.
This forced Yund's truck south into the median then into the eastbound lane of I-70, Yund was then struck by a semitrailer being driven by Haiguang Zhong, 42, of Rosemead, California, said troopers.
This forced Yund's truck back into the median, where it eventually stopped. Zhong's tractor-trailer traveled off the south side of Interstate-70 coming to a stop.
Yund was extracted from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. There were no other injuries reported.
Yund was cited for making an illegal U-turn, ISP said.
Troopers were assisted by Riley Fire Department, Trans Care and Edington's Wrecker Service.
