Wales hooker Carr ruled out of WXV2 with shoulder injury

Wales could be facing a hooker shortage ahead of their WXV2 campaign in South Africa.

Rosie Carr, who made her first international start against Australia on Friday, has been ruled out of the tournament.

The 22-year-old was taken to hospital after injuring her shoulder in a 25th minute tackle during Wales' 31-24 victory over the Wallaroos.

Speaking after the game, Wales head coach Ioan Cunningham said: "Unfortunately she took a nasty knock to her shoulder.

"It's a tough one at the moment, but we will look to see what we need to do and react once we get the full feedback from the hospital."

Carr had been named in Wales' 30 player squad which will travel to Cape Town, but there are now only two recognised hookers; the experienced former captain Carys Phillips and five-time capped Molly Reardon.

Kelsey Jones is recovering from a long-term knee injury, while Kat Evans retired from Test rugby in November.

Wales Under-20s hooker Abi Meyrick is also on the injury list.
