Want to try deer hunting? Field to Fork offers the chance, no experience needed.

A program introduced in 2023 offers Pennsylvania hunters new to the sport a chance to learn, and hopefully land some meat for the freezer.

Field to Fork is a partnership between the National Deer Association , U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Pennsylvania Game Commission.

There are limited openings for a mentored deer hunt this fall at Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge outside Stroudsburg in Monroe County.

Participants need a Pennsylvania resident hunting license , the association's Autumn McEntee told lehighvalleylive.com . Newly licensed hunters must complete a Hunter-Trapper Education course.

"The Field to Fork program provides both online and in-person training, hunting gear, antlerless tags, meals, and mentors for new hunters. No prior experience is needed, just the willingness to learn!" the Game Commission said in a social media post this week promoting the program .

The fall 2024 opportunity includes a mandatory training day on Nov. 15, and the hunt takes place Dec. 13 and 14. This will be a rifle deer hunt, organizers said.

Interested individuals, over the age of 18, may apply at bit.ly/4h3TuUF . Applications are due Sunday, Oct. 20.

Organizers also are seeking volunteer mentors for both an archery hunt scheduled Nov. 16-17 and the December rifle deer hunt. Contact Autumn McEntee at for more information.
