Wanted man accused of Mississippi murder arrested in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A routine traffic stop in Lincoln led to the arrest of a man wanted for murder in Mississippi, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. Deputies pulled over 26-year-old Malek Stevenson on Monday after noticing one of his headlights not working on his vehicle. During the stop, authorities discovered an active warrant from Clarksdale, Mississippi, accusing Stevenson of murder. The warrant, issued on June 7, alleges that Stevenson killed Larry Darnell Johnson on May 25. Following the discovery, deputies took Stevenson into custody without incident. Stevenson now faces a felony charge in Lincoln for being a fugitive from justice. Stevenson is being held at the Lancaster County Jail while waiting to be extradited to Mississippi.
