Potential Tropical Cyclone 19 formed in the Caribbean on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Sara on Thursday. Hurricane Watches have been posted for parts of Honduras with Tropical Storm Watches in northern Nicaragua. The NHC says Potential Tropical Cyclone 19 will continue to move westward toward the western Caribbean Sea, and Jamaica should see showers and thunderstorms associated with the system throughout the next day.

A slug of moisture that impacted the Gulf Coast with Tornado Warnings and flash flooding is expected to cause heavy rainfall across the eastern Carolinas. Expected rainfall totals could approach an inch along the I-40 corridor and 2-4 inches along the Outer Banks. Forecast models show an area of low pressure is expected to develop along the frontal boundary, which will create blustery conditions and erosion issues for beaches from the Tar Heel State into southeastern Virginia.

Our rather quiet weather pattern will continue for the rest of this week with only a slight chance of rain on Wednesday. Temperatures will stay warm for this time of year until the end of next week when some of the coolest air of the season arrives.

The National Hurricane Center says there is an 80 percent chance an area of disorganized thunderstorms in the Caribbean has an 80 percent chance of developing into the next tropical depression sometime in the next seven days. If a storm forms and strengthens to a tropical storm, it would be named "Sara."

The National Hurricane Center now has high odds for Invest 99L developing into at least a tropical depression, if not Tropical Storm Sara over the next two days and near certain odds it'll happen within a week.

Tropical Storm Sara is expected by Friday. Models intensify the area into a hurricane and even a major hurricane is possible. Ocean temperatures in the Caribbean are still in the mid-80s. We will have to watch for rapid intensification. Sara would be the 18th named storm and 12th hurricane, and potentially the 6th major hurricane.
