Washington Capitols at Boston Bruins: How to watch preseason hockey, time, channels

The National Hockey League preseason is in full swing.

If you have the bug already to watch some hockey before the season kicks off on Oct. 4, you can view the Washington Capitols at the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night from TD Garden.

Game time is at 7 p.m. and you can view it on the NHL Network or live stream it on ESPN+ , fubo TV (add-on, FREE trial), Sling TV (add-on, discount) or DirecTV Stream (add-on, FREE trial).

The Capitols head up to Boston for a same-day preseason game against the Bruins, a contest that serves as the front end of a set of back-to-backs. The Capitals return home after Tuesday's game and then travel to New Jersey for a Wednesday night date with the Devils.

Washington played mostly younger players in a 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. It's expected to play a few more of its veterans against the Bruins.

Among the eight players slated to suit up for each of the Caps' first two preseason games is Hendrix Lapierre, who logged 15:35 in Sunday's opener while winning five of 13 draws. In his previous camps in Washington, Lapierre has been battling for a roster berth. But coming off an outstanding performance in the Calder Cup playoffs for the Hershey Bears — he was awarded the Jack Butterfield Trophy as the playoff MVP — and a strong late-season run in D.C., Lapierre is seen as a bona fide NHL player now.

Another notable feature of the game is the likelihood of both Protas brothers – Aliaksei and Ilya – suiting up in the same sweater for a game at any level. The Belarusian brothers were drafted five years apart, both in the third round of their respective draft years.

The Bruins are coming off a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers in their first preseason game.

  • NHL Network or live stream it on ESPN+ , fubo TV (add-on, FREE trial), Sling TV (add-on, discount) or DirecTV Stream (add-on, FREE trial)
  • One of the players under the microscope will be Bruins' top prospect Fabian Lysell.

Lysell, 21, played in the Bruins' first pre-season game against the New York Rangers, and it was not the best start for the 2021 first-round pick. He had zero shots on goal and two turnovers in the game. For a skilled player looking to crack the Bruins' NHL roster, the outcome turned out below expectations.
