Zayas, 33, was born and raised in Miami. She is the middle daughter of three daughters born to her parents from Cuba. In 2023, Zayas earned her master's degree in criminal justice from the Florida International University.

She moved to Palm Bay in February 2024. In September, she graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy at Eastern Florida State College, where she was her class lead with another newly hired Cocoa Police Officer, Jason Dowty.

In her free time, she enjoys recreational weight training, video gaming, handy work, and fixing cars with her dad, who enjoys working on antique muscle cars.

Both officers will begin orientation, which involves learning the department's policies and procedures. They will then be paired with a field training officer, who will teach them the operational aspects of the job.

After successful completion, they will be assigned to a squad for patrol duties.
