WATCH: Small fire in Red Rock Canyon caused by lightning strike

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Viewer video sent to FOX5 shows a small fire that broke out in Red Rock Canyon after a lightning strike Friday.

Chances of thunderstorms are expected to increase across Las Vegas into the afternoon, but the west valley saw rain, hail, and heavy clouds in the early morning.

The video shows a small fire that sparked off of Calico Basin Road around 6 a.m., according to the viewer. She told FOX5 that she watched the fire spark after lightning struck the area.

The Bureau Land Management confirmed to FOX5 that the fire was caused by lightning, and burned at about 1/10 of an acre. The National Weather Service also confirmed there were several lightning strikes in the area from 6:00 a.m. to around 6:15 a.m.

BLM also shared that crews extinguished the fire and cleaned the area.
