HOLLIDAY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The nearly eight-hour stand-off in Holliday has come to an end after authorities shot and killed the suspect just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 7.

The stand-off began around 3 p.m. Thursday after police responded to a home near Holliday for a report of shots fired. During the early minutes of the incident, police locked down Holliday ISD and nearby homes to avoid injuries from crossfire.

According to Wichita County Sheriff David Duke, Archer County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene on Ford Road after dispatch received a call from the suspect's mother that he had shot and killed her parents, the suspect's grandparents.

Duke said that when Archer County deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect used a long rifle to fire at law enforcement, who returned fire and immediately called for outside assistance from other agencies, such as the Wichita County Sheriff and Wichita Falls Police Department.

The suspect barricaded himself inside a metal barn on the property with his weapon. SWAT forces from WFPD and the Texas DPS arrived and began working the scene with drones to gather more information about the suspect, which the suspect later shot down.

Officers later attempted to negotiate with the suspect using armored vehicles, but the suspect refused to speak to police.

While police were attempting to negotiate, more personnel from surrounding agencies and the Texas Rangers arrived. At around 9 p.m., deputies sent an armored-covered Bobcat to begin dismantling the walls of the barn the suspect was hiding in.

Law enforcement began using toxic chemicals to try to clear the barn. Officers received word that the suspect had night vision goggles and gas masks, limiting the effect those methods had on him.

As law enforcement continued to try to use chemicals to clear the barn, they witnessed the suspect raise his rifle toward officers at around 10:15 p.m., who then fired at him.

Duke said there's no confirmation the suspect was killed by a sniper due to trauma on the suspect's body. It's believed the suspect had a shotgun and a rifle

The Texas Rangers have taken over this investigation. Archer County Sheriff Curd said the identity of the 28-year-old suspect and the identities of his grandparents who were killed will be released soon.
