Weather forces changes to local sports schedules
Winter weather across most of Colorado has forced schools across the state to alter weekend sports schedules, including those in Loveland.
Thompson Valley's highly anticipated football game against Pomona originally scheduled for Friday night at Ray Patterson Stadium has been moved to 6 p.m. Saturday, still at Ray Patterson.
The game between the No. 1 Eagles (9-0) and No. 2 Panthers (7-2) will determine the 3A North 1 league champion. Thompson Valley is also looking to keep its undefeated season alive going into the playoffs, which begin next weekend for Class 3A.
Loveland's Class 4A first-round playoff game at Doherty has been moved from 1 p.m. Saturday at Garry Berry Stadium in Colorado Springs to noon Sunday, still at Garry Berry.
The Red Wolves ended their regular season on a three-game winning streak. The winner between No. 17 Loveland (4-6) and No. 16 Doherty (5-5) will face No. 1 Dakota Ridge in the second round.
Berthoud's Class 2A first-round game against Montezuma-Cortez will still be played as originally scheduled. The No. 6 Spartans (7-2) and No. 11 Panthers (7-2) will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at Max Marr Stadium in Berthoud.
Mountain View's regular-season finale at Roosevelt was also unchanged. The Mountain Lions (5-4) and Roughriders (6-3) were still scheduled to play Friday night in Johnstown.
In volleyball, Loveland's Class 5A regional scheduled for Friday at Loveland has been moved to Saturday. The No. 12 Red Wolves (17-6) will face No. 25 Grandview (12-11) at noon. That match will be followed by Grandview vs. No. 13 Erie (19-4) and then Erie vs. Loveland. Regional winners will advance to next weekend's state tournament.
Thompson Valley's Class 4A regional is still scheduled to be played Saturday at Thompson Valley, but the starting time has been pushed back two hours. The No. 1 Eagles (22-1) will face No. 36 Skyview (11-9) at noon. That match will be followed by Skyview vs. No. 24 Mullen (11-12) and then Mullen vs. Thompson Valley.
Berthoud's Class 4A regional at Lutheran has moved from Friday to Saturday. The Spartans (13-10), the No. 29 seed, will travel to face the host and No. 8 Lions (15-8) and No. 17 Falcon (18-5) in back-to-back matches beginning at 3 p.m. in Parker.
Resurrection Christian's Class 3A regional scheduled for Saturday has also been pushed back two hours. The No. 7 and defending 3A state champion Cougars will host No. 18 Middle Park (15-8) and No. 30 Arrupe Jesuit (14-9) beginning at noon Saturday at RCS. The Cougars will face Arrupe Jesuit first before Middle Park and Arrupe Jesuit play. Then RCS will face Middle Park.
Loveland Classical's Class 2A regional at Swink has been moved from Saturday to Sunday. The Lions (14-9) will play No. 4 Swink (19-4) at 1 p.m. followed by No. 21 Burlington (14-9).
Finally, the Class 4A gymnastics competition featuring the Loveland program, has been moved from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning at Thornton High School beginning at 9:25 a.m. The event finals, originally scheduled for Saturday morning, have been pushed back to 6:35 p.m. Saturday.
