EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) - We have waited patiently and are finally being rewarded with some cool and crisp fall weather for the next few days! Temperatures this morning are trending cool in the upper 40s to lower 50s with mostly clear skies and breezy northeasterly winds. Expect our highs today to trend well below average in the upper 60s and lower 70s! Winds will taper down later this evening, and temperatures are set to plummet into the lower 40s by tomorrow morning marking a pretty chilly start to Thursday! Sunshine and east winds will allow us to rebound into the middle 70s by tomorrow afternoon. We will gradually trend warmer each afternoon, placing highs in the upper 70s on Friday and sitting near 80° or even slightly warmer over the weekend. By next week, highs should begin to trend slightly above average once again in the lower to middle 80s, so there is an expiration date with this comfortable round of fall weather. The skies may be beautiful, but unfortunately we are going to remain totally dry today and for the rest of the week, which is not good for our drought situation. Very low humidity levels, strong post-frontal winds, and available fuel like dry grass and dead vegetation will lead to high/very high fire danger across East Texas today. Numerous counties have issued active burn bans across East Texas, meaning unapproved outdoor burning is illegal until further notice. Whether it is legal or not, I'd highly recommend y'all hold off on burning anything today as any strong gust of wind could lead to an out of control grass fire.. or worse, a home/structure fire!
