L.Thompson26 min ago

It didn't take long for the Fort Defiance football team to set the tone in Friday night's Shenandoah District matchup with Waynesboro.

Bradley Hebb returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to give the Indians a 6-0 lead just seconds into the game. Fort Defiance continued to roll from there en route to a 36-0 win over the Little Giants.

The Indians (4-2, 2-0 Shenandoah District) won their fourth game in a row.

Hebb scored another touchdown later in the first quarter to give Fort a 14-0 lead, then quarterback Trey Miller found John Wetzel for a touchdown in the second quarter to give the Indians a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Fort continued to pull in away in the second half. A James Pruiksma touchdown and Hebb two-point conversion pushed the lead to 28-0, then Landon Fridley scored the final touchdown of the night in the final seconds of the third quarter. Hebb scored on the ensuing two-point conversion to provide the final margin.

The Indians will look to make it five wins in a row this Friday when they host Stuarts Draft at 7 p.m. The Little Giants (0-6, 0-2) have a bye week before traveling to Stuarts Draft on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

Staunton 21, Wilson Memorial 0

The Staunton football program picked up two wins this past week.

On Wednesday, the Storm's loss to Central (Woodstock) earlier this season was changed to a win after Central announced that it was forfeiting its first four games of the season due to playing an ineligible player. Then on Friday, Staunton's defense delivered a shutout in a 21-0 win over Wilson Memorial.

After an interesting week, the Storm now have a 5-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Shenandoah District games and are in the thick of the Region 3C playoff hunt.

Maliq McCauley scored a pair of touchdowns and Marc Geffrard found the end zone on a long touchdown run for Staunton, which hosts Riverheads this Friday at 7 p.m.

Wilson Memorial (3-3, 0-2) travels to Buffalo Gap this Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup.

Stuarts Draft 39, Buffalo Gap 24

Landon Graber scored three rushing touchdowns and threw two long touchdown passes to Derrick Moore to lead the Cougars to a bounce-back win.

Stuarts Draft (4-2, 1-1 Shenandoah District) rebounded from its district-opening loss to Staunton with an impressive offensive showing.

Graber scored a rushing touchdown from 33 yards out and connected with Moore on touchdown passes of 50 and 45 yards to help the Cougars build a 26-16 lead at halftime. Graber added two more rushing scores in the second half as Draft held Buffalo Gap (4-2, 1-1) at bay.

The Cougars return to action this Friday when they travel to Fort Defiance for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Bison host Wilson Memorial this Friday at 7 p.m.

Riverheads 10, Christiansburg 7

For the second week in a row, the Gladiators (5-1) picked up a close victory thanks to some late-game heroics.

A week after the Riverheads defense made a key stop on a late two-point conversion to preserve a 14-13 win over Wilson Memorial, it was kicker Zac Brooks who delivered against the Blue Demons.

Brooks hit a field goal as time expired to lift the Gladiators to a victory in their final non-district game of the regular season. Brooks also hit the game-winning field goal against Christiansburg last season.

Riverheads returns to Shenandoah District action this Friday with a trip to Staunton. Kickoff is set for 7p.m.
