West Sussex: Views on cycling and footway upgrade sought

A council is proposing two-way cycle lanes on parts of a main road between Chichester and Bognor Regis.

West Sussex County Council is asking for residents' views on making the A529 more accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and people taking public transport.

The plan promises an increase in standalone bike lanes, new bus lanes and gates, and upgraded footways among other measures to reduce congestion.

Local people have until 11 November to submit their comments.

Changes to public transport will include new shelters, real-time information displays as well as safer access to stops.

The council also hopes to make the A259 Bognor Rd/Drayton Lane junction safer and introduce traffic signals at the A259 Chichester Rd/A259 Gladius Way junction.

The proposals form part of the council's wider plans to improve the A27 and make the area more suitable for electric vehicles.

The council is holding drop-in events where members of the public can speak to the project team and view proposals.

One session will be held at Bersted Park Community Centre in Bognor Regis on 16 October from 14:00 BST to 18:00 BST, and another at North Mundham Village Hall in Chichester on 21 October from 15:30 BST to 19:30 BST.
