WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Richard Tanner Ozment, 36, is charged with murder in the killing of a 38-year-old woman using a machete-like weapon, a criminal complaint affidavit states.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, deputies with the McLennan County Sheriff's Office responded to residence in the 15400 block of Old China Spring Road in China Spring.

A woman there told deputies she walked out of her home and noticed her son, identified in the document as Ozment, standing outside "very sweaty."

The woman said she attempted to walk around Ozment, but he stood in her way and she had to push him out of her way.

At that point, the woman discovered a human foot lying on the ground behind a recreational vehicle on her property, the document states.

"What have you done?" the mother asked Ozment, who, according to the document, replied, "She (the murder victim) tried to stab me."

The mother frantically ran back inside her home, and Ozment's father called 911 for help.

China Spring firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene and noticed a man running away from the home.

When the sheriff's deputies arrived, they cleared the area but could not locate Ozment. First responders later found the victim suffering from "extensive injuries, mainly, to her head."

The criminal complaint does not clarify where on the property the victim was found. The woman was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Center in Temple, Texas, where she died as a result of her injuries.

Later that day, deputies riding on horseback, accompanied by tracking K9s, located Ozment and took him into custody.

The murder victim has not yet been identified by the sheriff's office.

Ozment is being held on a $1 million bond at the McLennan County Jail.
