What Kalen DeBoer said with Trump set to attend Alabama-Georgia game

The Alabama football game vs. Georgia is set to be a spectacle. It's a top four matchup. It has SEC and College Football Playoff implications. College GameDay will hold its show in Tuscaloosa.

And a former president is planning to attend.

Former President Donald Trump is set to make an appearance for his second game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday. No. 4 Alabama (3-0) will face No. 1/2 Georgia (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about Trump's planned visit on Monday.

"I'm sure there's going to be a lot of celebrity-type people here, people that want to come be a part of what's happening on gameday," DeBoer said. "It's going to be, everyone's watching. So it'd be great to have everyone who wants to come watch be here. For us, I told the guys this, with (College) GameDay and everything coming here as well, for the guys to try to take as much off their plate, other than maybe a few extra interviews towards the end of the week. The main thing is they get prepared to play the best football game that they've played this year. I always challenge them to play the best football game they've ever played in their career. That's what matters when it comes down to what we can control. But yeah, it is kind of cool to have a lot of people who want to come be part of the atmosphere and add to the excitement and energy that the game will bring."

Trump has attended two Crimson Tide games before, and this will be his second visit to Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Trump's campaign confirmed the planned visit a week ago, and UA also shared in a statement that it has been notified that Trump plans to attend the game after receiving an invitation from a private citizen.

"The safety of our campus is and will remain our top priority, and UAPD will work closely with the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement partners to coordinate security," the UA statement read. "Like for every UA football game, walk-through metal detectors will be in place and the clear bag policy will be strictly enforced. Additional safety measures will be enacted in collaboration with local and federal agencies, so fans are encouraged to arrive early to expedite the security screening process. The University's focus will continue to be ensuring a safe and positive gameday experience for the student-athletes, fans of both teams, and all campus visitors."

The last time Trump attended an Alabama game, the Crimson Tide lost to LSU in 2019. Joe Burrow led the Tigers to a 46-41 victory in a season that LSU went on to win a national championship. Trump sat in a luxury box and was shown on the video board early in the game.

Alabama is 1-1 in games Trump has attended .

The other Crimson Tide game he witnessed was also against Georgia; He also stopped by the national championship game during the 2017 season in Atlanta. Trump stood on the field during the national anthem, but he left at halftime. Alabama won the game 26-23 as a result of the famous "second-and-26′′ touchdown from Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith.

Trump is the Republican nominee for president. He is running against Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.
