Where DJ Lagway and LJ McCray landed in On3's re-ranking of 2024 5-stars

On Thursday, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, took on the difficult task of re-ranking the 5-star prospects from the 2024 cycle.

Included in that group are Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway and defensive lineman LJ McCray . Both true freshmen have participated in more than a handful of games, with Lagway having started in several of them following Graham Mertz 's season-ending injury.

Below are Lagway and McCray's previous and new rankings along with Powers' notes on each.

Quarterback DJ Lagway , Willis (Texas) High Initial On3 Ranking: No. 2 prospect On3 Midseason Ranking: No. 3 prospect : 56-of-92 passes (60.9%) for 1,071 yards, 6 touchdowns and 5 interceptions; 37 rushes for 114 yards, averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Powers' Notes: "Though he's only started a handful of games, no quarterback from the 2024 cycle has shown a higher ceiling than DJ Lagway . That jives with what we saw from the former Five-Star Plus+ prospect during his prolific senior season at Willis (Texas) High."

Defensive Lineman LJ McCray , Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland Initial On3 Ranking: No. 6 prospect On3 Midseason Ranking: No. 13 prospect : 8 tackles (1 solo) and 0.5 sacks Powers' Notes: " LJ McCray was a big riser as high school prospect after a dominant senior season. He's played in seven games for the Gators and should see his impact expand as he continues to develop."

DJ Lagway returned to practice on Wednesday

As of Thursday, it's unclear whether Lagway will be able to play against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday following a hamstring injury during last weekend's game against Georgia.

However, the 5-star freshman did return to practice on Wednesday after being held out of action on Monday and Tuesday. Billy Napier shared his thoughts after Lagway's return to the field.

"It's been great for DJ to be able to practice," Napier said . "He's trying. He's a competitor. When you think about it, he's going to back to his home state, he wants to try to find a pathway to make this work. Obviously, it's touch and go. Look, the guy's giving it his best shot. We'll see where we'll at the end of the week."
