HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Jason Cullum is the new Public Information Officer for the Henderson Police Department.

The road to that role goes back to Cullum's days as a kid. He says his parents had police scanners throughout the house and would always be interested if there was any sort of activity outside.

"I lived in a neighborhood that saw a little bit of police activity, so that piqued my interest at a young age," he said. "By the time I was in the sixth or seventh grade, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement."

When he was with the Evansville Police Department, Cullum said he held many roles before becoming PIO in 2012 that included being on motor patrol, being one of the founding members of the bicycle patrol unit, field training officer, honor guard, sergeant and the crime prevention unit.

He left the role in 2019 and was with the University of Evansville for five years as the Public Safety Director. Henderson Police said in a Facebook post that Cullum brings over 20 years of law enforcement experience to the role.

Cullum says interacting with the public makes all the work with it.

"Anytime I interact with the public, that is a special moment for me and that individual," he said. "When I walk away from that interaction, I want those people to go, "The police are good." knowing I can represent a profession in a positive way."
