Wildfires merge, Upper Gros Ventre residents advised to prepare to evacuate

JACKSON, Wyo. — The Pack Trail Fire and the Fish Creek Fire merged into one wildfire last night, according to an update on Saturday, Oct. 5 by the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).

The incident will now be referred to as the Pack Trail Fire, which totals 48,640 acres in size, as of 10 a.m. on Saturday. Total personnel handling the incident is reported at 444.

On Saturday evening around 5 p.m., Teton County Emergency Management sent an alert encouraging residents in the Upper Gros Ventre area above the Goosewing Road Junction to prepare to evacuate due to the fire. On the agency's scale of "Ready, Set, Go," that area is now in the "Set" stage.

"Visibility in area will be reduced and roads/evacuation routes can become blocked," the alert reads. "Prepare now to evacuate when advised by local officials. If you require extra time to evacuate due to special needs, start to leave now."
