Windy, warm and wet at times for Election Day
We have a lot going on with the forecast for our Election Day. Temperatures will be near record levels, winds will be gusty and rain will be around at times.
Polls are open and temperatures are mild. We are in the mid 60s to begin our Tuesday. The record warm low temperature for the date in Indianapolis stands at 61°. We will not drop that low this morning but could late this evening. This is a record that may possibly be broken today. Another record to watch is for today's high temperature. The record stands at 76° from back in 2015. We're forecasting a high of 75°. It will be close!
A Wind Advisory is in effect for part of the state until 3 PM today. Winds gusting up to 50 mph are possible. For those not in the advisory, winds gusting 25-35 mph are still expected and we will remain with breezy winds through the late evening hours.
Most of the rain today will arrive after polls close but a few showers will be around early in the day. Spotty showers will be the story through the morning into the mid afternoon. Rain chances will rise quickly late this afternoon through the evening. A line of showers with embedded thunderstorms will move over the state. These are coming ahead of a cold front that will push this rain to the east late tonight.
Winds will ease and temperatures will be cooler but still above average tomorrow. While no more 70s are in the forecast temperatures will perform above average on into early next week. The average for today is 57°. Highs are expected in the 60s with plenty of sunshine for the second half of our work week.
