Winter Assistance Fair at First Presbyterian Church
Johnson City, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Those in need of extra help during the cold weather months are invited to join local agencies for a free information session.
A WInter Assistance Fair will be held tomorrow at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 2 Main Street in Johnson City. During the event, experts in energy, housing, health, aging and more will be in attendance to assist community members in learning about and applying for financial assistance with their utility bills and weatherization.
Eileen Hanrahan is the Community Energy Advisor with the Smart Energy Choices Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension. The program provides grant funding for insulation and other energy efficiency upgrades to people in need.
Hanrahan says people are often unaware of all of the helpful resources available.
"Winter is coming up and peoples bills are large right now. HEAP just opened last week. There's a lot of services that the community has to provide to people to help them through the winter months with reducing your utility bills and making your homes more energy efficient and generally helping to be a little more comfortable," she said.
The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.
