EUFAULA, Ala. (WDHN) — A Wiregrass family's life was turned upside down when torrential floods ravaged their home and most of their belongings during tropical storm Francine.

The Bush family was just trying to enjoy their Saturday morning in their Eufaula home when rain began to fall, which they knew was coming– but not at this rate.

"Throughout the morning, we started to see that water getting higher, from the streets- and nothing was draining," said Craig Bush, "We saw it get close to our front porch and that's when the realization hit that something bad was about to happen."

The flood waters rose over the home's front porch and entered the Bush's home, forcing the family to evacuate in Craig's truck.

The Bush family was forced to leave most of their possessions to drown in the floodwaters, including one of their cars.

The Bush family is just one of many to feel the remnants of Tropical Storm Francine.

The City of Eufaula sustained over 10 inches of rain in just 10 days, flooding city streets and creating sinkholes around the county.

"Soon as we first saw water, we called the insurance company just to get that ball rolling, and then, shortly thereafter, the water came in."

In the flood, the Bush's lost two of their cars, large appliances, some small appliances, furniture, bedding, clothes, and many personal items.

The Bush's say they were hesitant at first to ask for help, but when they saw the extent of the damage and money that would be needed, they relented and called some of Holly's coworkers for help.

"The whole community just reached out and supported us," said Holly Bush, "Offered to help us clean, to donate to the GoFundMe, and share it on their page; I'm very glad we did ask for help."

In the past, the Bush family says their neighborhood on Colby Avenue has had serious flooding problems due to poor drainage, but never to this extent- they say this could take years to recover from.

"My daughter's a senior this year, and we have been looking at schools for her to go to college next year, and we were working on the financial plan behind it." said Craig, "To think that something like this, a weather event, can all of sudden have an impact on not just this week, or next week, but potentially years to come."
