Wisconsin Department of Corrections agents team with law enforcement for trick-or-treating

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) announced that they will once again be teaming up with local law enforcement across the state to keep children safe during Halloween activities.

DOC Probation and Parole Agents and law enforcement officials will work together to conduct home visits on high-risk sex offenders during trick-or-treating hours to monitor them and keep trick-or-treaters safe.

Sex offenders who are in the registry who are on probation or parole are banned from putting up any kind of Halloween decorations and distributing candy. They are also not allowed to partake in any other trick-or-treating activities, their porch lights must be kept off during the hours.

"Halloween is a fun time of year for children," Grace Knutson, DOC's director of Sex Offender Programs said. "It is also an opportune moment to discuss safety with children that can be practiced throughout the whole year. For trick or treating, children should never go alone and always be accompanied by a parent or trusted adult."
