Woman dies after argument in Bronzeville turns violent

- A 38-year-old woman has died following an argument that escalated into violence in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood Tuesday morning. The altercation took place around 9:30 a.m. on the 700 block of East 43rd Street. According to Chicago police, the incident began as a verbal dispute between the woman and a 61-year-old man. During the argument, the woman allegedly sprayed the man in the face with a chemical substance. In response, the man struck the woman in the thigh with a sharp object, police said. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead. The man was taken into police custody. Charges are pending. The 37-year-old man was waiting in line at a Virginia Beach 7-Eleven, staring into his strawberry-melon Big Gulp, when he saw the red dot appear on the side of the cup. An arrest report gives more details about what occurred before a man was shot to death Wednesday in the 3200 block of West Edgewood Avenue. Investigators observed surveillance video that showed the victim driving an orange Chevrolet Camaro with orange rims at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and New Kings Road, according to the JSO arrest report for Lavertis Reed, 20, who was charged with murder in the shooting. As the victim's vehicle crossed the intersection, a white vehicle with dark rims was observed on the surveillance video driving south at a high rate of speed on New Kings Road, the arrest report states. Former U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, a New York Republican who resigned from Congress following a tax fraud conviction, is paralyzed from the chest down after being thrown from a horse during a polo tournament, according to friends who are raising funds to pay for the ex-lawmaker's medical care. Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm's who is a former New York City Council member. "It was a passion of his and he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September," said Ignizio, who has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for Grimm's medical care.
