VERSAILLES, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Cassie Prather is a breast cancer survivor, and she uses Breast Cancer Awareness Month to share her personal story.

"It means something so much different now after being on this side of going through breast cancer," Prather said.

  • Prather was diagnosed with breast cancer 18 months ago, but after treatment, she's here to tell her story. She's reminded of what this stage of life meant by looking around at all the pink in Versailles.

"All these things mean so much. Years ago, there wasn't this much hubbub about breast cancer. We really appreciate any kind of awareness campaigns that any community, the state, the nation can put out to increase awareness and decrease the mortality and risks of breast cancer," Prather said.

Local businesses and city workers have the town ready to show support for survivors, and those who have passed away, with every portrait telling a story. The attention to loved ones involved with breast cancer is something Woodford County Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Emily Downey loves to see each year.

"We want to continue that fight until there is a cure. For all of those who have those pink warriors that have fought or will fight, or have unfortunately lost the battle, that's why we do what we do every year," Downey said.

  • These dark moments of Prather's life weren't moments she had to go through alone, with her loved ones coming through every step of the way.

"I never knew I had so many friends and so many supporters. It was it was such a blessing through a dark spot in my life," Prather said.

Since then, Prather has been an advocate for breast cancer awareness, joining in on a mission to honor, remember, and love.

"Now I'm on the other side of it and I'm telling my story, and I will keep telling my story. If it helps one person, that's one person that doesn't have to go through a more difficult process," Prather said.
