RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The City of Reno has begun work on restoring a portion of Idlewild Park on Tuesday.

The work will involve repairing the deteriorating rock walls surrounding the southernmost pond in the park.

Construction is expected to continue through late spring of next year.

Crews will be pouring new concrete stem-walls to reinforce rock borders on the pond's west, north, and east shores.

The work is funded by $1.6 million of American Rescue Plan Act funding.

Portions of the park's parking lots and pond areas will be closed for the duration of the project, but the multi-use path through the park will remain open.
