Wvw Takes Opener Against Hazleton

KINGSTON – Defending PIAA Class 3A state champ Wyoming Valley West on
Friday opened its Wyoming Valley Conference season with a 4-1 victory over
Hazleton Area.
While the teams are in different divisions in the WVC, the game counts
towards qualifying for the District 2 Class 3A playoffs. Valley West has won
three consecutive district titles and five of the last six.

Cassie Puhalla, Melissa Stesaniak, Kaitlin Maloney, and Sarah Confer all
scored goals for the Spartans.

Ashley Thomas scored a late goal for Hazleton.

Wyoming Seminary 8, GAR 0

WILKES-BARRE – Wyoming Seminary jumped out to a 5-0 lead at half and
cruised from there. Kat Sharkey had two goals in the first 10 minutes of the
game, then tacked on a third in the second half.

Tam Morris added two goals, and Laura Suchoski scored a goal and recorded a
pair of assists.

Lehman 8, Northwest 0

SHICKSHINNY – Allison Boris had a hat trick as Lake-Lehman topped Northwest
Area.

Traci Ragukas scored twice for the Black Knights, and Jocelyn Mahon, Amanda
Sagan and Chrisse Kazmierski had a goal and an assist apiece.

Crestwood 6, Bishop O’Reilly 1

Swoyersville – Crestwood’s Amie Survilla and Caitlin McCurdy each scored a
pair of goals in a victory over Bishop O’Reilly.

Jordan Petchel and Elizabeth Drazdowski also scored a goal for Crestwood,
with Drazdowski adding an assist.

Ali Bauer put in the lone goal for O’Reilly.

Meyers 5, Bishop Hoban 0

WILKES-BARRE – Lindsey Conrad scored three goals and assisted on another as
Meyers defeated Bishop Hoban in a Class 2A crossover game at Hollenback Park.

Jenera Quinones added two goals and two assists for the Mohawks, Laura
Lisman had an assist and freshman Erin Conrad made 11 saves to get the
shutout.

Coughlin 13, Berwick 0

WILKES-BARRE – Sarah O’Donnell recorded a first-half hat trick to go along
with one assist to lead Coughlin past Berwick.

Jessica Musto and Kristen Watlock each added a pair of first half goals.

In the second half, Chantel Au scored a goal and assisted on another.

Nanticoke 7, Hanover 0

HANOVER – Jenna Butzek and Amanda Blank each scored a pair of goals to lead
Nanticoke past Hanover Area. All seven Trojan goals came in the first half.

Lackawanna Trail 6, Elk Lake 0

DIMOCK – Kristen and Katie Snyder each connected on a pair of goals to lead
Lackawanna Trail over Elk Lake. Emily Eremo and Katie Bruce each added a goal
of their own to round out Trail’s scoring.

Dallas 7, Montrose 0

MONTROSE – Freshman Paige Selenski had an outstanding opener, scoring two
goals and assisting on a third as the Lady Mounts defeated Montrose. Diana
Glicini also had a pair of goals, while Sam O’Brien, Alyssa Pyros, and Alysa
Retzetna each add a goal for Dallas.



Wallenpaupack 2, Tunkhannock 0

TUNKHANNOCK – Tiffany Berger scored a first half goal, and Melissa
Kosmaczewski added a second half one to lead Wallenpaupack to the win.

Delaware Valley 12, Pittston Area 0

MATAMORAS – Amy Hendricks had three goals and two assists as Delaware
Valley defeated Pittston Area in a Class 3A game.

Jackie Domzalski had two goals and two assists, and Katie Gabrell and
Heather DiMenno scored two goals apiece. MaryBeth Pomes had a goal and two
assists for the Warriors, and Courtney Donovan and Tabatha Thompson had the
other goals.

Honesdale 14, Wyoming Area 0

WYOMING – Emily Wood scored three goals as Honesdale defeated Wyoming Area.

Kellie Yarrish and Kaitlyn Barnes scored two apiece for the Hornets.
