WWE Crown Jewel 2024 Results: Liv Morgan Topples Nia Jax

W.Johnson25 min ago

Nia Jax and Liv Morgan faced off at WWE Crown Jewel 2024 in an interference-filled battle of two of pro wrestling's biggest villains, but in the end, it was Morgan who reigned supreme thanks to a few assists from The Judgment Day.

Morgan, the Women's World Champion, defeated the current WWE Women's Champion, Jax, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia after interference by both Raquel Rodriguez and Dominik Mysterio to become the first-ever women's Crown Jewel Champion. It was perhaps the perfect ending for two world champions who, although they're both technically heels, could not be more different.

WWE has spent much of 2024 building up Jax as one of its most dominant superstars. She is the Queen of the Ring, SmackDown's top champion, and even boasts wins over the likes of Bayley, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. Morgan, on the other hand, has spent much of her year involved a soap opera-esque love triangle with Mysterio and Rhea Ripley.

If anyone was going to win this match via an outside assist, it always going to be Morgan.

Morgan's title reign on Raw is losing some steam as her feud with Ripley has hit a speed bump thanks to Ripley's injury while her Judgment Day stable continues to lose star power. With Ripley and Priest now firmly out of the faction, Morgan has been booked as the focal point of the group, and one thing's for sure: She and Mysterio continue to get mega heat from the crowd.

The same is true for Jax, but the marked difference is that she appears to be on the upswing as Morgan's red hot stretch on Raw slows down to a simmer.

One of the best storylines on the SmackDown brand right now is Jax's "frenemy" relationship with Tiffany Stratton, the current Money in the Bank briefcase holder who teased another cash-in at Crown Jewel but was thwarted by Rodriguez. It doesn't take a psychic to see where this is ultimately headed, with Stratton likely turning babyface in the process of cashing in her MITB briefcase on Jax and becoming world champion for the first time on the main roster.

That's why WWE and creative head Triple H have made such a concerted effort to make Jax a formidable and loathed champion, and it's worked out incredibly well on the blue brand in recent months.

Jax has made vast improvements to her in-ring work and overall character, transforming into a bona fide heat magnet, and yet, she's also incredibly dominant. Sure, Jax isn't quite as protected as stars like Roman Reigns or Gunther, but she's benefiting tremendously from quality booking that has her being presented as a bigger star than she's ever been.

Morgan's star power has increased exponentially in 2024 as well, but she has yet to be tested as a true top star and world champion without being involved a marquee storyline with Ripley. The toughest challenge ahead for Morgan will be to remain a top star without being around Ripley, arguably the biggest star in the women's division and one of the top names in WWE in general.

At least right now, Jax is the driver for Stratton's eventual ascension to the top of the card, but there wasn't much damage done to her character at Crown Jewel. She only lost after a handful of instances of outside interference, and her storyline with Stratton is still on track. Morgan stayed true to herself with a tainted victory, but now that Ripley is sidelined, she will face the major challenge of finding another entertaining storyline.

Although Morgan's win in Saudi Arabia solidified her as a cowardly heel, her immediately future on Raw remains unclear.
