“Y on the Fly” to start offering family resources in Hopkins County

J.Mitchell4 hr ago

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) — Parents looking for meals, enrichment activities and homework help for their children is coming to a neighborhood near them in Hopkins County.

The Hopkins County Family YMCA cut the ribbon on "Y on the Fly," designed to bring food, board games and STEM activities to the community.

We are told families do not need to be members of the YMCA to take part.

Staff are prepared to accommodate food allergies.

It serves a need as the YMCA says one in five kids in Hopkins County do not know where they will have their next meal after school.

"A lot of kids — unfortunately — because because parents both of them have to work, they're just not able to be at home having dinner with their children. But we can come to your neighborhood and set up and area that your children can come and have dinner with us," says Director of Outreach Michelle Hale.

Y on the Fly will travel around the county, including Earlington, Mortons Gap and Dawson Springs.

It makes its first stop in Madisonville this Monday at the Cross Creek Apartments between 5 and 6 p.m.

Y on the Fly will also visit the Pride Apartments between 6:10 and 7 p.m.

On Tuesdays, it will visit Earlington First Baptist Church between 5 and 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, it will visit Mortons Gap City Park between 5 and 7 p.m.

On Thursdays, it will visit Nortonville City Park between 5 and 7 p.m.

On Fridays, it will visit Dawson Springs Square between 5 and 7 p.m.
