DENVER ( KDVR ) — A 21-year-old was charged with first-degree murder after a triple shooting in Commerce City on Sept. 6.

On Friday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office said Ethan Jennings was charged with the following:

  • First-degree murder

  • Two counts of first-degree attempted murder

  • Two counts of first-degree assault

  • Four counts of crime of violence – a sentence enhancer

  • Columbine survivor stuck with $72K medical helicopter bill after insurance said they won't pay

The charges stem from a deadly shooting in the 7300 block of Oneida Drive, near Colorado Highway 2 and 74th Avenue.

According to the DA's office, 20-year-old Makayla Lawrence was killed, and two others were injured in the shooting. The Commerce City Police Department said detectives believe Lawrence was an unintended target and was not involved in any type of altercation.

Police said a man was critically injured, but is expected to survive and a woman suffered a non-life-threatening injury.

FOX31's Carly Moore was on scene that day and spoke to a nearby resident who said shots were constant around the neighborhood.

"A lot of crime happening right here in the area, right in our backyard, and I think that one of the biggest concerns is the kids. I'm a teacher, so a lot of kids live here in the neighborhood. They walk by here, and we don't see a lot of patrolling of the police, so that's a huge concern," resident Dee Garza told Moore.
