12-year-old girl struck and killed by SUV in West Windsor

A 12-year-old girl and a dog were struck and killed by an SUV as they crossed a street in West Windsor on Monday evening, authorities said.

Ananta Ahuja and the dog were hit near the corner of Rabbit Hill Road and Abbington Lane just after 5:30 p.m., West Windsor police said.

Ananta died of her injuries at an area hospital while the dog was deceased when police and emergency workers arrived, officials said.

The 65-year-old West Windsor man driving the SUV stopped and talked to police. No charged have been filed but the investigation is ongoing.

Ananta was a 7th grader at Community Middle School, West Windsor-Plainsboro school officials said.

“Our condolences go out to her family and friends,” Superintendent David Aderhold said in a letter to the school community.
