A 32-year-old woman died at the Travis County Jail three days after her arrest, a jail spokesperson said Sunday. It was the fourth in-custody death at the jail this year.

Ayanna Lashawn Smith, 32, of Austin was found unresponsive in her cell about 9:20 a.m. Friday, spokesperson Kristen Dark said. Smith received CPR from the jail staff, and it was continued by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services medics. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and Smith was pronounced dead at 10:02 a.m., Dark said.

A cause of death was not provided. The Travis County medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy Saturday, but the final report is pending.

The jail declined to comment on whether Smith had been on suicide watch or had been housed in a mental health unit.

Smith was arrested June 25 and charged with criminal trespass and a parole violation, a news release said.

Smith's death will be investigated by the Texas Rangers and the jail's criminal investigations division.
