FLINT, MI - The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library is welcoming young readers from across the community to a $7,000 book giveaway event.

Designed to help children and teens ages 0 to 18 build their own home libraries, the event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Flint library, 1026 E. Kearsley St., promises a selection of new books at no cost.

Each attendee will receive a canvas tote bag to fill with books suited to their age and interests, from classic children's stories to contemporary young adult novels.

The giveaway aims to promote reading and literacy, equipping young readers with the resources to enjoy a personal collection of books at home.

"We believe every child deserves access to high-quality books," Executive Director Taliah Abdullah said. "This event is more than giving away books; it is about strengthening social and family connections, building a community of readers, and empowering our youth to explore their curiosities through reading.

"By providing free books to families, we hope to minimize barriers to accessing literacy materials and encourage intergenerational bonding through shared reading experiences."

Adding to the celebration, DJ Sayless will be onsite to create an atmosphere with music and entertainment.

The program is made possible by the support of the AG Bishop Charitable Trust.
