Want your own blueberry farm near Lake Michigan? 650 acres are for sale

ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI — Nearly 650 acres of active blueberry farmland spread across 12 tracts of land in Van Buren and Allegan counties are up for auction.

Interested parties can bid on one to a dozen tracts, which range in size from 5 acres to 119 acres.

The Absolute Blueberry Farm auction , open through 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, is being run by Peoples Company. Of the 647.13 acres of farmland available, there are currently 469.33 acres with planted blueberries with a mix of drip and overhead irrigation installed, the listing states.

The available farmland is presently harvesting multiple varieties of blueberries. None of the tracts have farming leases in place for 2025 either, meaning buyers can get right to work in 2025 producing blueberries.

"Allegan and Van Buren County are crucial to Michigan's blueberry industry," the listing states. "The sandy soils and high water tables create a perfect environment for growing blueberries.

"With a pH hovering between 4.5 and 5.5, these soils strike the right balance of moisture retention and drainage, optimum for overall blueberry plant health."

The tracts are just 5 miles from Lake Michigan, lending to a microclimate that helps mitigate the late spring frosts and ensure the cooling needed during the hotter summer months to maximize growth.

The tracts are located near either Fennville, Bangor, Covert or South Haven, the latter of which hosts the National Blueberry Festival each August.

The seller has owned the 12 tracts since 2019 and leased them out to a local tenant, listing agent Bryan Bergdale told the Kalamazoo Gazette/MLive.
