Need some inspiration for your reading list? Ana Huang, a No. 1 New York Times bestselling author, stopped by the 3rd hour of TODAY this morning to share what she's been reading — and loving — lately. Huang, author of the "Twisted" series, is known for her propulsive, dark and steamy new adult romance novels. With her latest book, "The Striker," out Oct. 22, she moves on from the world of billionaires found in "Twisted" and into professional sports. Asher Donovan is a star footballer in the Premier League. After a major loss and a controversial team transfer, Asher is forced to bond with his former football rival-turned-teammate during off-season training. " The Striker" by Ana Huang Things become more complicated when he meets his rival's sister, Scarlett DuBois, a former ballerina who takes up the job as their trainer. Off season practices and training are simple enough. But Scarlett and Asher can't seem to stay away from each other — even if falling in love is a really, really bad idea. Read on for Huang's book recommendations for this November. Unsurprisingly, romance novels await. Best romance novel " Make the Season Bright" by Ashley Herring Blake Huang calls this the "perfect book" for the holiday season. Charlotte Donovan expected a cozy Christmas in Colorado after tagging along with her bandmate — not a run-in with the ex-fiancée who left her. The past is not so easily forgotten. "The two leads feel very real, and they really have to dig into their issues before they can find their happily ever after," Huang says, adding that she also loved the novel's large "ensemble cast" of supporting characters. Best thriller " The Boyfriend" by Freida McFadden Huang recommends the latest in Freida McFadden's line of bestselling thrillers, calling "The Boyfriend" a "definite page-turner, easy to binge in one sitting." A handsome, charming doctor, Sydney Shaw's new boyfriend seems perfect in every way. But is there a chance he's actually the serial killer making headlines in New York, known for dating his victims before killing them? "McFadden explores the potentially dangerous pitfalls of online dating through the eyes of a woman, who has seen and suffered one too many disastrous dates to find Prince Charming, with gripping plot twists and well-developed character arcs and chemistry," Huang says. Best book-to-screen " Rivals" by Jilly Cooper This 1988 novel takes place in the cutthroat world of British television. Now, it's a show on Hulu starring David Tennant, Aidan Turner and Katherine Parkinson. "Readers will remain captivated by the decadent messiness of the 80s, as well as Cooper's thrilling cast of electric characters," Huang says. Best debut " For She Is Wrath" by Emily Varga "From the first page, we are drawn and captivated into this highly imaginative, atmospheric fantasy world," Huang says of this novel. "For She Is Wrath," a retelling of the "Count of Monte Cristo," is about love, vengeance and magic. After being framed for a crime she didn't commit, Dania has one thing on her mind: revenge. Dania seeks out the person she once loved and is responsible for her undoing. With her new found dark magic and identity, Dania's desire for revenge may prove stronger than the love she can't help but still feel for Mazin. "The banter and chemistry between Dania and Mazin in the before chapters is addicting, which is still just as palpable when the two are reunited while Dania is under a secret identity to enact her revenge," she says. Best fantasy " Blood Over Bright Haven" by M. L. Wang After studying magic feverishly, Sciona became the first woman ever admitted to the High Magistry at the University of Magics and Industry. She's hardly welcomed by her classmates and professors. With the help of another outsider, a janitor named Thomil, Sciona uncovers a conspiracy about magic and their society's underlying structure. In "Blood Over Bright Haven," world-building meets magic, mystery — and some probing questions. The story explores the exploitation of power and colonization with a focus on gender inequality and morality. "The characters are all fully fleshed out, with masterful character arcs," Huang says. "While Sciona starts off as a selfish and egotistical character, the reader is rewarded with her character growth throughout the book as she forms a relationship with Thomil and they fight back against their oppressors."
