3 people displaced, 2 pets killed during morning fire on Murray Ave in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR ) – Roanoke Fire & EMS say they responded to a home on Murray Ave during the early morning of October 16 for a fire that displaced three people.

RFD said around 4:48 a.m. on Wednesday, fire crews arrived at the 700 block of Murray Avenue SE after reports of a structure fire. Engine 6 arrived at the scene to find smoke and heavy fire from the front side of the building.

Firefighters began battling the blaze and other challenges including power lines falling across Engine 6 and setting up secondary water supplies.

Crews weakened the fire and then searched the home, during which one dog and one hamster were found deceased.

The fire was extinguished around 6 a.m. No other injuries have currently been reported.

Three people have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
