SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Firefighters in Worcester County are fighting a massive fire at an apartment complex Wednesday morning.

The two large wood-frame apartment buildings on Union Street in Southbridge caught fire early Wednesday morning just before 3:30 a.m. Southbridge's fire chief says a total of 30 people have been forced out of their homes, but everyone was able to escape the buildings safely.

The Red Cross is helping those residents and an emergency shelter has been set up.

The Massachusetts Fire Marshal's Office is looking into the cause of the fire.

The family of a 16-year-old from a small northern Ontario community, who was seriously injured when her ex-boyfriend allegedly hit her with his vehicle and then attacked her with a sword, say the past week has been a "big blur."Kaylie Smith remains in hospital in Ottawa with serious injuries, but is in stable condition."It's just like a big blur. An eagled-eyed husband and wife were sailing in Hawaii when they spotted mysterious objects in the distance. Camila and Ryan Sullivan found five scuba divers drifting at sea. They told their rescuers that they were on a diving excursion. When they surfaced, they realized that they drifted away and their dive boat was nowhere to be found. The couple tried to pull them to safety but the sea was too rough. They radioed the U.S. Coast Guard. Twenty minutes later, help finally arrived.

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. Cohen didn't specify who made the comment regarding Harris.
