Decision 2024: Bacon and Vargas to debate Friday

Rep. Don Bacon will take on State Sen. Tony Vargas in a live debate at noon Friday at the Omaha Press Club.

The debate comes after Omaha Democrat Ann Ashford endorsed Bacon on Monday, saying that he "has a proven record of crossing the aisle for solutions."

Vargas has been participating in rallies to protect the blue dot, after threats to change Nebraska to winner-take-all state.

Midtown parking lot "eyesore" to be cleaned up Friday In August, a 6 News investigation looked into a Midtown parking lot that was used an illegal dumping site after the July 31 storms.

Neighbors expressed concern, calling the parking lot an "eyesore" compared to the well-kept properties.

They have been waiting for the area to be addressed. Some say that it was a problem that has grown worse since the storms.

Cleanup will start around 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

Regents to consider alcohol sales at all Husker events The University of Nebraska Board of Regents is meeting Friday to discuss allowing the sale and consumption of alcohol at all Husker events.

Officials say alcohol has been successfully and safely implemented at designated Husker events, such as baseball and softball.

Nebraska is the only Big Ten institution that does not yet allow alcohol at football games.

The meeting will be live-streamed at www.nebraska.edu . It starts at 9 a.m.

It is week six of high school football in the Omaha-metro with more Friday night games.

Fremont will be traveling to Omaha and playing at Westside.

Elkhorn North will be taking on Elkhorn.

Creighton Prep is heading to Omaha Central for their matchup.

Saturday is a 6 First Alert Weather Day The 6 News Weather team is reporting record-breaking heat as a possibility Saturday.

Highs are expected to reach into the mid 90s , which could reportedly break 60+ year old records.

Douglas County is currently under a burn ban . Our meteorologists say that breezy conditions, low humidity, and dry weather up the fire danger Saturday.

Temperatures will be in the mid 90s at the time of the Huskers' game. Those attending the game are asked to plan accordingly.

Huskers to host Rutgers on Saturday Nebraska football is gearing up for Saturday's matchup. Rhule says they are moving on to a "whole different animal" as they go up against the Rutgers .

The 4-1 Huskers captured their first conference and road victory of the season last week.

Husker legend Ndamukong Suh is set to be inducted into the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday. It is also the Huskers' homecoming game.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
