6,100 without power in northern Horry County
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A power outage is affecting more than 6,100 Horry Electric Cooperative customers, according to an outage map on the utility's website.
The outage over a large section of northern Horry County began at about 12:45 p.m.
An Horry Electric spokesperson said the utility lost transmission from Santee Cooper to its Green Sea, Midway, Cedar Creek and Cool Springs substations. The reason for the loss of transmission remains unclear.
A Santee Cooper spokesperson said they're currently investigating the cause. They said a clearing contractor had a tree fall on the line and that it may have happened again.
Horry Electric serves about 97,000 customers. This is a developing story. Count on News13 for updates.
