Nov. 2, 1924: There will be a nonpartisan meeting of the citizens of Clinton and DeWitt County on Monday evening, Nov. 3, for the purpose of discussing the $100 million bond issue to be voted on Nov. 4. Local speakers will discuss the issue, which is now being studied by the electorate of this state. Every voter is invited to attend the meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the "K" theater.
Nov. 2, 1949: Bloomington's Local 102 of the American Federation of Musicians is 50 years old today . Its charter was issued Nov. 2, 1899. Constable William Peterson, who has been president of the organization for the last 25 years, said the only charter member now living in Bloomington is William Simon of 605 S. Allin St. Union members and their families are set to celebrate at the Melody Mill on Monday, Nov. 7.
Nov. 2, 1974: Dr. Leon Follmer, formerly of the Livingston County Forrest and now of Champaign, will leave today to assist in the Dry Valley drilling project being conducted this year in the Antarctic. Follmer is one of the U.S. geologists whose job it is to determine the geophysical characteristics of the bedrock, thickness of permafrost and to study the groundwater present below the permafrost.
Nov. 2, 1999: A new after-school club at Bloomington Junior High School pits young readers against each other . Book Battlers, started by English teacher Sue Pulido, has students read and test their knowledge on the books. The books range in difficulty and subject matter, from titles like Elie Wiesel's "Night" to Ellen Raskin's "The Westing Game."
