'A taste of the season': AppleJack Festival begins in Nebraska City

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - It's all things apple at the Arbor Day Farm.

The Nebraska City farm kicked off their 56th annual AppleJack festival on Saturday. The festival features a wide variety of apple-flavored products for guests to enjoy as soon as they enter, from apple cider, to apple pie, to a special apple cider ice cream called "Nebraska To the Core."

"Nobody goes home hungry," Rachel Hrabik of Arbor Day Farm said. "It's apple everything, and I think it's just a taste of the season which you just can't pass up."

Aside from the apple-themed fun, there is also a network of 11 treehouses for kids to climb through, and a four-mile walking trail spanning the property grounds.

The main event of the festival is the farm's "U-Pick It" area, where a field full of trees with fresh apples hanging from them can be picked by guests.

Those in charge of organizing the event say that it draws around 70,000 people to the city each year. For a variety of reasons, including a particularly fruitful harvest this year, they say they expect this season to be their most successful yet.

The festival will be open to the public again on Sunday and will pick back up with new activities the following weekend from Sept. 28 to Sept. 29.
