Alice Elizabeth Creager

Alice Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Creager of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania died peacefully on October 22, 2024, with her family by her side. Alice was born on December 11, 1923, in Shiremantown, Pennsylvania. She was married to Jack Lamont Creager in 1948, who preceded her in death in 1951. In addition to her husband, Alice is predeceased by her parents, Walter Stone Zimmerman and Daysie Jane (Russell) Zimmerman and siblings Walter Russell Zimmerman, Sarah Frances (Zimmerman) Bretz, Daniel David Zimmerman, Eleanor Hoch (Zimmerman) Horn, Rachel Jane (Zimmerman) Joyce and Johanna Zimmerman.
Alice was a 1941 graduate of Mechanicsburg (Pa.) High school, and a 1947 graduate of Gettsyburg College, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
Alice's survivors include her daughters Susan W. McCampbell (Michael) of Naples, Florida, and Beth C. Fallon (Brian) of Saunderstown, Rhode Island; her four grandchildren Jason McCampbell, Leslie McCampbell, Elizabeth Fallon and Anne Fallon Hurd (Ryan), and three great grandchildren Daniel Crovetti, Grace Hurd and Samuel Hurd. She is also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews. Alice adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and "Gagy" always had a kind word and loved "Facetime" and pictures.
Alice served for thirty-three (33) years as the Director of Cumberland County's (Pennsylvania) Children and Youth Services, retiring in 1989. Highly respected for her work, in 1991 Alice received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Administrators. In 1993, she was elected to Mechanicsburg High School's Alumni Association Hall of Fame for her achievements in the field of humanities.
After retirement, Alice divided her time between Mechanicsburg, Marco Island, Florida, and her beloved cabin in Caledonia, where she treasured her mountain neighbors. Alice took up golf at the age of 70 which allowed her to further enjoy nature. She especially loved the beach. She was a volunteer at the Nature Conservancy of Southwest Florida, where she designed and maintained a butterfly garden. She also volunteered at two elementary schools in Collier County, Florida.
Alice was a needleworker leaving behind phenomenal quilts and counted cross-stitch artwork, treasured keepsakes for her family.
Alice's family will hold a celebration of her life in Spring 2025. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. Alice's family asks that in her memory, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
