FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - On Wednesday, Alive Community Outreach - Fort Wayne announced a new campaign advocating for peace and nonviolence in the community.

Officials say the "Be the Peace Campaign" will be introduced this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 21, in commemoration of International Day of Peace.

According to a press release, the organization will hold a vigil to honor victims of violence in our community from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in downtown Fort Wayne.

The vigil will be followed by "Peace Week," which will feature FWCS' five high schools. Organizers say schools will raise awareness of violence in the community by focusing on the six Kingian Principles of Nonviolence.

The release notes that Peace Week will also include an interactive social media campaign and on Wednesday, Sept. 23, Alive Community Outreach will host a Facebook panel moderated by Maestro Robert Nance of Heartland Sings in honor of National Day of Remembrance.
