PLEASANT PRAIRIE — Village police have arrested three men, allegedly members of a Peruvian national retail theft ring, who were reported to have stolen more than $3,000 in merchandise from a Nike department store in Oshkosh.

The men — Juan C. Yancunta-Quiroz, Jose A. Arteaga-Sanchez and Darwin Velasquez — were taken into custody Saturday night on felony charges of party to a crime of receiving or being in possession of stolen property valued between $2,500 and $5,000, along with outstanding out-of-county warrants, according to the Pleasant Prairie Police Department.

Earlier that evening, officers received a tip the group may have been responsible for a recent theft at a Nike department store in Oshkosh and anticipated they would target the local Nike outlet store, 11211 120th Ave., in the village.

Village police identified a vehicle matching the suspects' description at the mall. The men were arrested and officers reportedly recovered some stolen merchandise. Nothing was stolen from the local store, police said.

During a post-incident investigation, village police said they learned the men are allegedly connected to a larger Peruvian national group reportedly responsible for retail thefts totaling more than $54,000 across multiple states, including New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maine, Virginia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, Utah, Nevada and Wisconsin.
