AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Nine juveniles have been arrested in September for over 30 various social media threats, false alarms and terroristic threat reports directed at area schools.

Members of the Amarillo Police Department's Juvenile Unit, School Resource Officers, Amarillo ISD Police Department, Canyon ISD and other school districts investigated over 30 various threats.

The Amarillo Police Department said most of the reports were found to be false, but some were intentionally posted on social media to cause panic in the Amarillo community and schools.

Students also made statements to illicit reactions and draw attention to themselves.

The Amarillo Police Department states that all threats made towards any school, students or staff are taken very seriously.

As a result, nine juveniles from multiple Amarillo area schools were arrested for charges of terroristic threat and false alarm/report.

APD thanks the public, students and school district personnel in assisting in the investigations and reporting threats made towards schools.
