Greater Pittston and Plains each won two games at different American Legion Youth baseball eastern Pennsylvania region tournaments before having their seasons end this week in the double-elimination events.

Wyoming Valley League champion Greater Pittston won its first two games to reach the winners’ bracket final at Radnor High School in Wayne, then lost two straight.

Plains recovered from an opening loss to win two straight games at Connell Park in Scranton before also being knocked out with a loss Tuesday.

Greater Pittston opened its regional July 26 with a 6-4 win over host Wayne. Matt Silinskie went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Tyler Jackson added a two-run triple and Aaron Lee had two hits.

Lucas Jurchak was the winning pitcher with relief help from Jackson and Matt Wright.

Josh Kopcza allowed just one hit and one run over 5 2/3 innings the next day when Greater Pittston handled State College, 9-1. Robbie Wychock did not allow a run while getting the final four outs.

Dylan Spurlin had a three-run double and Dylan Melberger had two hits.

Hamburg took advantage of errors to score four unearned runs while beating Greater Pittston, 4-0, in Monday’s winners’ bracket final. Wright pitched a complete game and struck out seven in the loss.

Charney, Jackson and Silinskie had hits.

North Parkland ended Greater Pittston’s season, 9-3, Tuesday.

Plains was playing in the regional at South Scranton after winning a Wyoming Valley League playoff for the top teams other than the regular-season champion.

Plains lost to Roxboro, 2-1, in the opener, then came back to eliminate opponents from the tournament the next two days. Plains defeated host South Scranton, 8-3, and Bloomsburg, 7-3. Kyle Ofier took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Bloomsburg.

George Oko had four hits, including a triple, and Chase Nowak had a three-run double in that game. Northampton ended the Plains season.
